A new study claims 1.15 million people in the past 12 months have driven without car insurance, despite hefty fines, penalties and losing your license if caught doing so.
According to Sainsbury's Finance a shocking 1.15 million people have admitted to driving without car insurance. Nearly two-thirds of those found guilty were aged 17-24 and 22 percent aged 25-34.
The study interviewed around 963 people and of those 10 percent confessed to driving without insurance because they could not afford it. An additional 13 percent argued they couldn’t find the time to sort out car insurance and a further 13 percent claimed they simply forgot to buy any car insurance.
Regionally London was the worse offender in Britain, with 6 percent of those surveyed driving in the big city without car insurance. Runners up in the offenders league table was the South West England and Wales and in third position Yorkshire and Humberside.
Those who do pay their insurance will be annoyed to hear that the cost of uninsured motorists normally adds an extra £25 to £30 to the average annual car insurance premium.
